Aston Martin to sell redesigned version of Toyota's iQ city car under the Aston Martin Cygnet brand

Japanese auto giant Toyota Motor has teamed up with the UK carmaker Aston Martin, to build an ultra-mini luxury car. Toyota would produce its ultra compact iQ model at a plant in Japan for Aston Martin. Aston Martin would redesign the vehicle at its assembly plant in Gaydon, the UK, and sell the redesigned version as the Aston Martin Cygnet in Europe.

Dr. Ulrich Bez, CEO, Aston Martin, said: "This concept - akin to an exclusive tender to a luxury yacht - will allow us to apply Aston Martin design language, craftsmanship and brand values to a completely new segment of the market."

The move is expected to help Toyota, which is trying to rebound after posting net loss in recent fiscal year, boost output volume and improve production efficiency for the iQ brand.
