Hyundai's Le Fil Rouge Concept car set to make US Debut

ABR Staff Writer Published 24 July 2018

Hyundai is set to debut its new concept car Le Fil Rouge at the upcoming Concours d'Elegance of America in Plymouth, Michigan between 27 and 29 July.

The 2018 Le Fil Rouge Concept car is stated to be a reinterpretation of Hyundai’s 1974 Coupe Concept and is the beginning of the ‘Sensous Sportiness’, a design theme which will include four fundamental elements in ca design such as proportion, architecture, styling, and technology and these will appear across several of its vehicles ranging from sedans to SUVs.

The name Le Fil Rouge means common thread and it reflects the carmaker’s belief that its past, present and future designs are all connected.

The concept car has large wheels, long wheelbase, short overhangs, has a decent dashboard to axle ratio, the distance from front wheel center to the base of windshield. This offers a comfortable driving position. The concept car also has a teardrop roofline.

Hyundai claims to have taken a new approach to the brand’s design heritage. It has taken up what it calls a ‘Light Architecture’, which gives a new look to the vehicle. The front and rear pillars along with the roof are seemingly blended into the overarching silhouette of the vehicle.

It also claims that the exterior and the interior of the vehicle were merged by ‘Tube Architecture’ to create the same emotional value inside and outside of the vehicle.

The interior of the Le Fil Rouge vehicle has been designed to address the different needs of the driver and passengers. The front passenger seat offers maximum comfort even for long-distance trips with more leg room.

The driver’s seating position has also been designed with optimum ergonomics. The wrap-around architecture emphasizes depth, creating a calm, spacious and comfortable environment.

A floating panaromic display coupled with haptic technology is in front of the driver. This display offers access to intuitive climate controls and other features of the vehicle.

The interior has a two-way air ventilation system that will blow air over the curved surface of the concept vehicle. The wood and high tech fabrics were used extensively, offering exquisite and sensuous forms.
